Exension of shrine of imam Musa al-Kadhim
Client: Atabat ministry of Irap
Figures: 12000 m of Ischebeck micropile, 15000 m reinforced micropile in 25 cm diameter and 11000 m
The excavation operation in east and west courtyard of imam Musa al-Kadhim shrine is executed with top-down method and depth of 8 m. The groundwater table is located 3 m below the ground surface. Considering the factors which include importance and age of building, client emphasizing on rapid execution of operations, limited resources and work space and presence of pilgrims during project execution, using micropile method was suggested as the best method. A wall of 12 m long micropiles with diameter of 25 cm was constructed in order to stabilizing the excavation wall and water proofing the excavation site. Also one row of ground anchors with length of 10 m was installed to increase the safety factor and minimize the wall lateral displacement. At the place of building columns, Ischebeck micropiles were constructed with 24 m length, 18 cm diameter and bearing capacity of 35 ton. Tension loading tests which were carried out after the micropile operation, showed very good results in regard to bearing capacity.
